Climate
The Strath Taieri, in common with other areas at the edge of Central Otago, has a contrasting climate of desiccating summer heat and severely cold winters. Ice is common in winter, and snow will cover the ranges for weeks on end.
Annual rainfall is a lot less than on the coast, although the valley floor may look green for much of the year.
